History and Nature Tour (Moldova and Bucovina)

Standardized Tours

The History and Nature Tour will take you through the archaeological, geological, historical and natural beauties of the Republic of Moldova in less than ten days. Because today’s borders are no longer relevant to understand the Cucuteni culture, a very ancient European civilization, the Nature and History Tour, will take its honourable visitors and guest through Moldova and a short trip (48 hours) in Bucovina, a wonderful mountainous region in North-East Romania.

The Republic of Moldova has some of the very first traces of European civilisation. The Cucuteni Trypillian Culture (known as Cucuteni in Romanian and Трипільська in Ukrainian), is a Neolithic–Eneolithic archaeological culture (ca. 4800 to 3000 BC) in Eastern Europe.

It extends from the Carpathian Mountains to the Dniester and Dnieper regions, centered on modern-day Moldova and covering substantial parts of western Ukraine and northeastern Romania, encompassing an area of some 350,000 km2 (140,000 sq mi), with a diameter of some 500 km (300 mi; roughly from Kyiv in the northeast to Brasov in the southwest, and therefore largely centered on modern-day Republic of Moldova).

Scientists have made extraordinary discoveries in Eastern Europe in large region ranging from Romania to Ukraine. Approximately 7000 years ago, today’s Moldova was the land of one of the very first ancient civilizations in Europe, namely the Cucuteni-Trypillian culture. The majority of Cucuteni-Trypillian settlements consisted of high-density, small settlements concentrated mainly in the Siret, Prut, and Dniester river valleys. During the Middle Trypillia phase (ca. 4000 to 3500 BC), populations belonging to the Cucuteni-Trypillian culture built the largest settlements in Neolithic Europe, some of which contained as many as 1,600 structures.
